Day in Birmingham
Today I spent the day in Birmingham (not Birmingham, Alabama!). It is a city near where I live. I enjoy going there since my town does not have much to offer when it comes to shopping and eating. The annual Christmas German market is currently on and I wanted to visit it. Birmingham is partnered with the German city of Frankfurt. Bet you didn't know that!
Birmingham was very crowded. We managed to get around the market the first time. We tried a second time later in the day, but we could hardly move. We bought a wooden decoration for our Christmas tree and I bought two ceramic cats that resemble my felines. We also got some sweets. After the market I looked around the shops trying to find a replacement for the bag my oldest cat decided to do his business on. Unfortunately I could not find a bag fit for purpose.
We lunched at Yo! Sushi since I wanted to try sushi for the first time. It turns out I do not like it. One bite of salmon nigiri confirmed that. I just couldn't forget that I had raw fish in my mouth. I heaved as I was chewing it and had to wash it down with cola. I am such a food wimp, but it was an achievement for me to actually put raw fish in my mouth. I can be a little proud! I did not want to waste the sushi so I ate the other piece, too. All was not lost, though. I managed to grab some chicken noodles off the conveyer which I enjoyed.
The train journey there was cramped, but tolerable. The train journey back was annoying. We happened to choose a day to travel when there was a local football match going on. Cue a load of sweaty, boozed up old men singing crude football chants on the train for 45 minutes. Not good.
Overall a nice day out. I wish I had some pictures to show you, but I did not take the camera and my mobile phone was low on battery.
Have you been to the Birmingham German market? If so, what do you like about it? Did you try any of the food?

Oh no! Who ever decided to start you out on your sushi journey with such an advanced roll? lol You should have gotten something simple without raw fish first. Like a California roll. I didn't like that at first because I hate cucumbers, but now I don't mind them so much.
The fist sushi that I did like was called Tamago. It means "sweet egg." Basically it's a little yellow scrambled egg patty on some rice. Yummi!
The word "sushi" actually refers to the rice, not the raw fish as people often mistake. Sashimi is raw fish. So it is possible to like sushi without liking sashimi! ^_^
Okay, I like sushi a bit too much to have written that book in your comments about your trip to Birmingham. lol Sorry! Umm... grats on the return to blogging! I love the layout, btw!

If you were in B'ham, Alabama you would have been near me :'(
Glad you had a good day! <3>
